The Book of Changeable and Extra Songs, 2010

The Book of Changeable and Extra Songs (2010) was a nine-hour collaborative performance with artist Heidi Bartlett. During this time artists Anthony Hawley and Heidi Bartlett cut a 13-ft black walnut tree (which had been struck by lightning) while attached to the ceiling of a space that was between commercial business rentals. They recorded the sound of their labor during the performance. For one evening only they left the remains of their work and the audio recording for the audience to experience. They used various cutting implements and were attached to the room with ribbons. Food and drink were donated by local businesses. A sample of the audio recording is available below:
